Actor Cole Sprouse Arrested During George Floyd Protest
Actor Cole Sprouse, known for his role as Jughead, revealed yesterday that he was arrested while protesting peacefully for the Black Lives Matter in Santa Monica, California. Many celebrities worldwide are participating in what happens to be the aftermath of Geroge Floyd’s death.
On his social media handle, The Riverdale star shared his experience featuring a BLM graphic. He recounted the events that took place yesterday while Cole, with other civilians, was protesting peacefully on the streets of Santa Monica.
Likewise, the peaceful group was later targeted and cornered by police officers that eventually led to his arrest.
“A group of peaceful protesters, myself included, were arrested yesterday in Santa Monica,” Cole began. The young actor then explained how he was “detained when standing in solidarity.”
He then continued,” So before the voracious horde of media sensationalism decides to somehow turn it about me,” Cole says, “there’s a clear need to speak about the circumstances: Black Lives Matter. Peace, riots, looting are an absolutely legitimate form of protest. The media is by nature, only going to show the most sensational, which only prices a long-standing racist agenda.”

In his words, Cole surely did not sugar coat them while also explaining how the media is biased about sharing the news. True to the statement, the media has shown more people rioting than police brutality that has been happening.

Moreover, in many parts, the police force has shown no mercy to those protesting either, which Cole Sprouse did not forget to include.
“I was detained while standing in solidarity, as were many of the final vanguards within Santa Monica. We were given the option to leave, we found no retreat, we would be arrested.”
He also followed how the police detained them when they were about to leave.
“When many turned to leave, we found not retreat, we found another line of police officers blocking our route, at which point, they started zip tying us.”
Aside from being a brilliant actor, Cole is also known for his thoughtfulness and witty comments. Still, this time he shed all those and expressed how the institutional consequences can happen to anyone, even those participating in a peaceful protest.
Cole Sprouse explained how this could happen to anyone.
Sprouse also mentioned how he was not sharing the events of his arrest to make a story about “a straight white man and a public figure,” not in any way.
“This is, and will be, a time about standing ground near others as a situation escalates, providing educated support, demonstrating and doing the right thing.”

Cole further wrote,
“This is precisely the time to contemplate what it means to stand as an ally. I hope others in my position do as well. I notice that there are cameras that roll within the police cruisers during the entirety of our detainment, hope it helps.”
The 27-year-old actor then ended his post, urging his followers to educate themselves about the Black Lives Matter movement and that he will address this matter in the coming days as well. For now, Cole does not want to make a deal that he was arrested.
Other celebrities also protested on the streets.
Similarly, Cole was not the only one who participated in the Black Lives Matter protests over the weekend.
As mentioned above, celebrities around the country have been involved in this matter in their ways. As many cities and towns came together to show their support, celebrities have been using this platform and voices to spread the message.

Even the lovebirds, Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello, who have been social distancing in Miami since the lockdown, came to the streets for the protest. Many onlookers spotted the two holding signs that read ‘Black Lives Matter.’

Another pop star who went on the street without hesitation was Ariana Grande. On May 31, the diva protested in Los Angeles instead of a peaceful protest. In the past, she has been known for participating in such events and voicing her message through social media.
Aside from them, other celebrities such as Halsey, Michael B. Jordan, Kehlani, Lauren Jauregui, J. Cole, Timothee Chalamet, Ellen Page, Tinashe, and Jade Thirlwall from Little Mix were all spotted supporting the movement on the streets.
