CelebMix Chats with Kylie Hughes
Kylie Hughes is a little piece of sunshine from California who’s talent in songwriting is matched by the incredible mix of power and sweetness in her voice as she performs. From songs about love, life, and laughter to a coined word that embodies how she sees her music and also herself – Kylie is living out her dreams and inspiring the world with her talent in the process.
We were lucky enough to chat with Kylie about her beautiful music video for “Never Ever” and a little bit about where she’s been, what she’s got planned for the rest of 2016, and where you can keep up with her so you don’t miss a thing! She’s an absolute sweetheart with the world at her feet, we’re sure you’ll fall in love with her quickly.
The video for “Never Ever” is very emotional; especially the contrast between the memories of happier times and the sad current reality – which part was more fun to film for you?
All of it was pretty fun to film.. I can say the worst part to film was anything in the water. Sitting in that lake at like 8am was ice cold and then someone forgot to heat the pool we were shooting in so that took my breath away too- which isn’t particularly good when you’re trying to hold your breath underwater. I’d say running up that grassy hill though was one of my favorite shots. Literally and metaphorically climbing and overcoming that mountain felt good.
You coined the phrase Calipopicana which you use to describe your sound, which is very unique, what was your biggest motivator to stick to your own sound and voice?
At the time that I made up “Calipopicana”, the biggest motivator was to stand out. The second motivator was to classify the kind of sound I was making which was very throwback beachy.
What has been your favorite song to record up to this point and why?
I can’t pick one of my babies! But a lot of the stuff I recorded in Nashville was fun because we tracked in a giant barn turned studio in the middle of nowhere off some back road. It rained the whole time but it fit the moody vibe we were recording.
Your first album was out in 2014, are you planning on releasing a new one soon? If so, how was the process for this album different?
Calipopicana was all written in six months. The songs selected this time around will be chosen from two and half years worth of recording. It will be sounding much, much different.
2016 is a big year for music, what do you have in store for your fans specifically?
Maybe another single or two..?
Where can new fans go to find out more about you and to keep up with your new projects?
I’m a pretty active Instagrammer and I love Snapchat (misskyliehughes) and Twitter!
Look for new show or song postings on my website!
