Ed Sheeran Takes A Break From Music Following Multiple Court Cases

According to a report from Page Six, Ed Sheeran is taking a break from music for the foreseeable future. Standing before the crowd on Tuesday at the Chantry Park in Ipswich, England, Ed stated he was going on hiatus.

The 28-year-old singer-songwriter, who was performing his 260th show at the Chantry Park, finished off his night with the track, “You Need Me, I Don’t Need Me.”

Ed is taking time off from music at a particularly interesting time, considering around 9 million people went to his Divide Tour, moreover, his No. 6 Collaborations Project went to number one in 14 countries.

Ed said before the crowd that there was something kind of “bittersweet about it,” especially on account of the fact he was ending it in Ipswich. The star added it would be his last concert for approximately 18 months. The A-Team singer is reportedly dealing with court battles in the ensuing months.

As it was previously reported, Ed has been accused of plagiarizing the 1973 hit from Marvin Gaye, “Let’s Get It On,” regarding Sheeran’s 2014 track, “Thinking of You.” Moreover, Ed has been hit with other plagiarism suits before.

As a result of the chord progression and tempo, which are identical, Structured Asset Sales are taking Ed to court over the 2014 hit. They own the partial copyrights to Marvin’s music, among their other clients, including David Bowie as well as James Brown. The organization is taking Ed to court for $100,000,000.

Furthermore, Ed is finding himself in trouble over his other song, “Shape Of You,” whom Sam Chokri claims is plagiarized. Chokri accused Ed of lifting the chorus from his 2015 track, “Oh Why.” Sam reportedly submitted the song as an example to persuade Ed and his team to work with him.

The High Court Of England will hear this particular case in 2020. Moreover, Ed has angered some of his neighbors over a pond he built on his property, which, in his words, “supports wildlife preservation,” whereas his neighbors claim it’s merely a swimming pool for his “wild lifestyle.”

Getting back to Ed’s last show, Sheeran stood up before the crowd and said he would “see you in a few years time,” but it’s not entirely clear if its for his legal battles or just because it’s time for him to relax.
