Legendary Director Mike Nichols Dies Suddenly at 83
It’s always a sad day when the world loses someone they love so much, and it’s an especially sad day today with the loss of Mike Nichols. The Oscar-winning director died suddenly at the age of 83. He’s one of the only people in the history of Hollywood to win what is called an EGOT – otherwise known as an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar and a Tony Award in his lifetime. He was originally in school to study medicine when he went into the business of comedy and eventually into the business of directing.
Some of his most famous films include The Birdcage and Working Girl, as well as hit Broadway productions such as Spamalot. The director died suddenly died on Thursday, and the news was shocking to the entire world. There has been no word from his wife, former ABC News Anchor Diane Sawyer, about his death. The couple met on a flight many years ago, and she quickly became the director’s fourth wife.
Married for more than 26 years, the couple spent a lot of time together despite their busy schedules and the fact that they were often in different parts of the world thanks to their respective jobs. Sawyer once said that they were like a couple of teenagers when they were together, staying up late at night and cooking and just spending time together.
So far there is no word as to what caused the death of the award-winning actor. No one has opened up about any health issues that might have contributed to his death. The world is mourning the loss of a man who was called a true “visionary,” and it seems that we may learn more as the week goes on. So far, there is no word as to when the director will be laid to rest.
