Seth Rogen is a Canadian actor, stand-up comedian, writer, producer, and director. He has co-directed the films This Is the End and The Interview, both with Evan Goldberg; he co-wrote the former film, and also co-wrote the films Superbad, Drillbit Taylor, Pineapple Express, The Green Hornet, The Watch (2012), Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising, Sausage Party, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, writing all but Drillbit with Goldberg, and sometimes with other writers, as well. He has also appeared, had voice roles, or starred, in most of the above films. His roles also include the films Donnie Darko, You, Me and Dupree, Fanboys, Zack and Miri Make a Porno, Observe and Report, 50/50, The Guilt Trip, Steve Jobs (2015), The Disaster Artist, Like Father, The Fabelmans, and, in voice performance, The Spiderwick Chronicles, Dr. Seuss’ Horton Hears a Who!, the Kung Fu Panda franchise, Monsters vs. Aliens, Paul (2011), The Lion King (2019), Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers, and The Super Mario Bros. Movie. On television, he has starred on Freaks and Geeks, Undeclared, and Pam & Tommy, co-developed the show Preacher; co-directed episodes of said show, as well as Future Man (all again with Goldberg); and written or co-written episodes of Undeclared, Da Ali G Show, and The League.
He is the son of Sandra and Mark Rogen. His father is American and his mother is Canadian. He has described his parents as “radical Jewish socialists.” His ancestors were Jewish emigrants from the Russian Empire, including Ukraine and Poland, and from Austria. Seth is married to American actress and writer Lauren Miller Rogen. Lauren is also Jewish.
Seth’s paternal grandfather was Daniel Rogen (the son of Joseph Rogen and Edith/Ida Gusakow/Gusakov). Daniel was born in New Jersey. Joseph was born in New York, the son of Abraham Rogen and Katie/Kathie, who emigrated from the Russian Empire, and had roots in Kiev. Edith was born in Zinkov, Ukraine, and moved with her family first to Pittsburgh, U.S. She was the daughter of Abraham Gusakov and Marja/Mary/Minnie Toivis/Davis, and also had roots in Duniefstza, Poland.
Seth’s paternal grandmother is Annette Weissman (the daughter of Harry Weissman and Rose Fishman). Annette likely was born in New Jersey. Her family was from Austria.
Seth’s maternal grandfather was Kelly Belogus (the son of Paul Belogus and Freda Lander). Paul and Freda were emigrants from the Russian Empire. Paul was born in Odessa, the son of Sam/Shia Belogus and Frima Delen/Diluion. Freda was the daughter of Colman Lander and Clara Klatkin. Her family was from Polonnoe, Ukraine.
Seth’s maternal grandmother is Faye Averbach (the daughter of Israel Averbach and Sonia Dorfman). Faye’s parents were from Russia.
