The world remembers Christina Grimmie one year after her death
It was just one year ago, on June 10, 2016, when Christina Grimmie was tragically taken from us after being shot and killed by an obsessed fan while signing post-show autographs. 12 months. 52 weeks. 365 days, we have gone without her. But, the impact this exceptionally talented young woman had on the world during her fleeting life will carry on forever.
Just a month prior to Grimmie’s passing, CelebMix spoke with her exclusively as she admitted to being in the midst of working on a full length album. That LP, titled All Is Vanity was released early Friday by the former Voice alum’s family and instantaneously cracked the top ten on iTunes’ pop chart. All proceeds from the late singer’s album go towards the newly-launched Christina Grimmie Foundation, which supports both breast cancer and gun violence.
“The Foundation is committed to helping impacted families experience the same type of love and support Christina Grimmie’s family experienced from friends, family and the community at large when faced with the shock of losing their precious daughter to gun violence,” the foundation’s official website explains. “The Foundation is also committed to creating a community of compassion and support for breast cancer patients and their families, in the same way that Christina Grimmie supported her mother, Tina Grimmie, during the most difficult times that accompanied her mother’s breast cancer diagnosis.”
The posthumous release of Grimmie’s album is bittersweet for fans, who continue to celebrate the star, deeply understanding how important this new music was to the 22-year-old. Back in February, Grimmie’s older brother and best friend, Marcus shared with Elvis Duran the desire to release the never-before-heard tracks to the public.
“There are tens of thousands of hardcore Team Grimmie fans that every day, they’re always praying for you and saying, ‘When’s the music coming out! I want to hear it!'” he shared. “They carried her for the last six years of her career and they’re going to continue to carry her legacy.”
On Saturday, members of Team Grimmie from all over the globe wore green in her honor and expressed their unconditional love, using the hashtags #GrimmieGreenDay and #CGForever.
